Wayne J. LutzScience Fiction has always been my passion

Born and raised in upstate New York, sunshine and the University of Southern California drew me west. My Air Force service was followed by 20 years as a C-130 aircraft maintenance officer with the California Air National Guard. From 1980-2005 I was Chairman of the Department of Aeronautics at Mt. San Antonio College and led the college’s Flying Team to championships as Top Community College in the US seven times. Meanwhile, I continued to accrue flying time as a FAA certified flight instructor, logging 7000 hours. I now reside in a floating cabin on Powell Lake in British Columbia and a city-folk condo in Bellingham, WA.

Cabin from CliffI’m an outdoors kind of guy. You’ll find me most often at my floating cabin on Powell Lake with my wife Margy. It’s the perfect location for boating, hiking, fishing, reading, writing, and stargazing with my 8-inch Meade LX-90 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. At our remote off-the-grid location, nighttime seeing is excellent from the cabin’s front deck.

TelescopeI also enjoy using my quad to explore the back country, a 24-foot Bayliner to tour inlets and bays along the BC coast, and our Piper Arrow to fly to remote destinations.

Science fiction writing is my passion. It started with Inbound to Earth and now there are five titles to choose from. I also write non-fiction. My book series entitled Coastal British Columbia Stories highlights the people, places, and off-the-grid adventures in a region where mountains drop into the sea and lifestyles focus on self-reliance and a different sense of purpose.

All titles are available in print and Kindle formats through Amazon and other major online booksellers.

I invite you to browse my science fiction books here or at my website www.PowellRiverBooks.com. Please leave a comment if you have any questions or something to share. — Wayne

Are you from Rome, NY? 1964 graduate of RFA? If so, you may remember me as Carlene Martin.

  2. Gerald McRorie says:

    Hi Wayne,
I just finish reading “Up the Lake” and wanted to know how much I enjoyed it. I found you and I have some things in common and I’m sure, as an author you are keeping very busy, but I would enjoy meeting you if you have the time. I have your mailing address and was thinking of contacting you that way but I decided to take the stupid person route of posting a bit about me and expecting it won’t result in any more junk email than I presently get.
I, too, and an Air Force veteran. I spent four years at FE Warren AFB, Cheyenne, Wyoming. When I was there (1954-1957), it was a tech training base and I ran the hospital library (where I was a patient for four months with an ailment that the doctor told he had to name for my records but really had virtually no idea what it was).
Anyway, I lived on Lummi Island for 35 years before moving to the mainland and now live in a condo not far from where you live (Marine Drive). I earned a degree in communications from the University of Washington in 1960 and edited the Whidbey News Times at Oak Harbor from 1959 to 1963. If you would like to meet, give me a call at (360) 526-2826. Perhaps we could meet for a drink or coffee.
I think some of my boating stories would amuse you (a couple almost killed me).
    Regards, Jerry McRorie
